After that I had radiation treatments 5 days a week for 6 weeks because the cancer had spread to my seminal vesicles. Fortunately, my lymph nodes had no cancer, indicating that the cancer had not metastasized to other parts of my body. I was lucky.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-83-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-83-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-83-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"2\" >\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p>\nI trained for my surgery like I would have trained for a triathlon. I knew that being in shape would hasten my recovery and I was right. The doctors were delighted with my recovery and encouraged me to continue exercising.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAfter this experience I became certified as an ASCM\/ACS Cancer Exercise Specialist. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and American Cancer Society (ACS) developed this program because scientific evidence indicates that exercise helps to prevent and control cancer. ASCM has also reported that exercise is SAFE during and after most types of cancer treatment.
